Match v Lincolnshire Seniors held at Sleaford on Monday 5 August 2024

Match Captain Sue Saunders reported that it was her first scratch match of the season and it had been a struggle to get the 12 players required for the away match in Lincolnshire.

Six games of four ball better ball were played in good spirits in fine golfing weather on a pleasant golf course that wasn't too long.  The scoring in general was very good and every match was toughly fought.  It was the first outing for the Vets for Bev Fowler of Mundesley, Jane Herrington of Thetford and Kay Bailey from Eaton and they all proved to be a valuable asset to the team.

A big thank you to the Sleaford Club for their hospitality and well done to the Norfolk team.  As so many competitions are now for the handicap golfer, it was lovely to play without shots and the result was a friendly 3-3 draw.

The Results:
NVLGS Lincolnshire Result Score

Sue Meadows & Kay Bailey vs Elaine Hancock & Helen Bradshaw Won 3 & 1
Sally Benton & Sally Bettinson vs Lynn Exley & Jan Blanchard Lost 2 & 1
Bev Fowler & Jane Herrington vs Debbie Webster & Cathy Lee Lost 2 down
Debbie Pollard-Barns & Anne Sibley vs Angie Francis & Bev Dolman Won 3 & 2

Proceeds of the raffles held at the competitions in 2024 totalled £1,407.70. A cheque for this amount has been sent to the Norfolk & Norwich Hospitals Charity for the Jenny Lind Appeal. Our thanks go to Jill Bullimore, Angie Allsopp and Sue for running the raffles and to all those who bought tickets.

The Spring Four Ball Betterball Stableford was held at Gorleston Golf Club on 14th April 2025. Competitions Secretary Jill Bullimore reported that 92 members from 14 clubs took part. The weather was fine and dry. However, the wind did get stronger as the day progressed making this a factor to wrestle with. Gorleston Golf Club were superb hosts; everyone made every effort to make our day enjoyable. There were particularly satisfied faces after a lovely fish and chip meal. Congratulations to the winners, Sue Olds and Sue Fage from Wensum Valley, with a creditable 46 points.

Angie Allsopp reported that 88 ladies from 14 clubs played in this event. It was a very good day, the weather was extremely kind and we were looked after very well by all the staff at Bawburgh. Everyone seemed to enjoy the day and quite a few stayed for the presentation. Unfortunately, we did not have a starter so everyone saw themselves off, which was not a problem.

Match Captain Sue Saunders reported that this match against Cambs & Hunts Seniors was rearranged from earlier in the year when rain stopped play. The games were played in good spirit and the individual matches were really enjoyed against good opposition. There is no question that the Norfolk team feel at home at the tree-lined King's Lynn course which was in excellent condition and a real pleasure to play on for our final match of the season. Hospitality provided was first-class and a great two-course meal was enjoyed by all. NVLGS colours were presented to Bev Fowler and rather belatedly to Sally Bettinson, Kath Malvern and Anne Sibley.
