Rain stopped play!

As Friday approached the forecast was not looking good. Most of us found the St Ives Golf Club without too much difficulty but some Sat Navs wanted to go to their previous home, now a housing estate. The new course styles itself as a links although the sea is a fair distance away.

The C & H Captain had prepared the cards in advance so we were able to enjoy a relaxed coffee before play and for a few of the team it was time to renew some old acquaintanceship's.

A moody sky led most of us to don waterproofs and sure enough the rain started as we prepared for the off. For the first hour or so it was intermittent and we saw a little sunshine but as the first match reached the 8th hole the heavens opened and the course conditions deteriorated quickly with greens starting to flood. After consultation between the Captains it was reluctantly agreed to abandon the match after 9 holes and we headed for the safety of the clubhouse to try and dry out.

The staff at St Ives were very accommodating and were able to bring forward our meal of roast pork with all the trimmings, followed by peach melba torte. The match position after 9 holes was C & H up in 2, Norfolk up in 1 and 1 match all square. We were somewhat bedraggled so there was a reluctance for the regular team photo! An interesting debut for the two Norfolk players making their debut, Judith Pattrick and Ann Lockhart!
The Results:

Proceeds of the raffles held at the competitions in 2024 totalled £1,407.70. A cheque for this amount has been sent to the Norfolk & Norwich Hospitals Charity for the Jenny Lind Appeal. Our thanks go to Jill Bullimore, Angie Allsopp and Sue for running the raffles and to all those who bought tickets.

The Spring Four Ball Betterball Stableford was held at Gorleston Golf Club on 14th April 2025. Competitions Secretary Jill Bullimore reported that 92 members from 14 clubs took part. The weather was fine and dry. However, the wind did get stronger as the day progressed making this a factor to wrestle with. Gorleston Golf Club were superb hosts; everyone made every effort to make our day enjoyable. There were particularly satisfied faces after a lovely fish and chip meal. Congratulations to the winners, Sue Olds and Sue Fage from Wensum Valley, with a creditable 46 points.

Angie Allsopp reported that 88 ladies from 14 clubs played in this event. It was a very good day, the weather was extremely kind and we were looked after very well by all the staff at Bawburgh. Everyone seemed to enjoy the day and quite a few stayed for the presentation. Unfortunately, we did not have a starter so everyone saw themselves off, which was not a problem.

Match Captain Sue Saunders reported that this match against Cambs & Hunts Seniors was rearranged from earlier in the year when rain stopped play. The games were played in good spirit and the individual matches were really enjoyed against good opposition. There is no question that the Norfolk team feel at home at the tree-lined King's Lynn course which was in excellent condition and a real pleasure to play on for our final match of the season. Hospitality provided was first-class and a great two-course meal was enjoyed by all. NVLGS colours were presented to Bev Fowler and rather belatedly to Sally Bettinson, Kath Malvern and Anne Sibley.
