Our Autumn Greensome Stableford held at Dunston Hall Golf Club on 18th October 2017. With a record number of 140 entries from 19 clubs, Competition Secretary Trish Watson balloted down to 128 players. The changeable weather and a two tee start made the course both long and challenging. Many thanks go to Julie and Annie for the registration and results, Jane for the raffle which raised £123 for Norfolk Junior Girls, the starters Richard and Gary, and Chrissy who came in as a marker at very short notice. A donation was given to Lady Captain Pip Martin for her charity.

AUTUMN AMAM AT HEACHAM MANOR GOLF CLUB ON 21st SEPTEMBER 2017 19 teams of 4 played in this event and prizes were awarded to 1st, 2nd and 3rd, along with a nearest the pin. Heacham Manor made us very welcome. The Manager, Edd Howes, and his staff were on hand throughout the day and nothing was too much trouble. The food – jacket potato with various fillings – seemed to go down very well and the service was excellent. Heacham Manor – a very young club being only eight years old – do not have a Lady Captain or a charity and at present do not have any lady member of our Society. Their past Lady Captain, Rachel Hodgkinson, kindly acted as starter on the 1st tee and Sue Meadows, Hunstanton’s Vets Representative, started the ladies off the 13th tee and also ran the raffle which, after the cost of prizes, raised £100 for the Norfolk Junior Girls. Angie Allsopp, Match Vice Captain of the Society, who had arranged the event, gave a welcome speech and thanked all who had helped to make the day a success, in particular Janet Lavin for registration and checking the cards. Prizes were presented by President, Helen Ayres.

The Championship – Silver & Bronze Divisions held at Royal Norwich Golf Club on 15th June 2017. Trish Watson reported that the Championship was played on a lovely sunny day with the course in good condition. With the numbers down from last year, this was our first venture at a 12.30 p.m. start time. 59 players from 12 clubs throughout the county played in the competition: 27 in the Silver Division and 32 in the Bronze Division. 44 players entered the Gwen Watts Salver Over 65 competition which ran alongside the Championships. Thanks go to Jacky Pett (Vice Captain for Ladies’ Golf at Royal Norwich), Pippa Holliday, our Chairman, and Jill Braybrooke, Secretary of the Vets Committee, for Registration and Scores, and Pat Williams for the Raffle. The hospitality at Royal Norwich was of a high standard and well received by all players. Our thanks go to Lesley Smith and her team. After making a contribution to the Vice Captain’s charity, the raffle raised £98 for Norfolk Junior Girls.

The Spring Four Ball Betterball Stableford held at Middleton Hall Golf Club on 21st April 2017. On a cold and windy morning, 112 ladies from 21 clubs across the county headed west to Middleton Hall to play in the first competition of the year and the first to be organised by Competitions Secretary, Trish Watson, who had taken over from Pippa Holliday at the AGM in March. As we walked from the car park to the clubhouse we saw our new flag flying! The day was very well supported by the owners of Middleton Hall, Mike and Mandy Johnson, and all the staff, with a complimentary half way house enjoyed by all the ladies. We are grateful to Mike and Mandy for their hospitality and for kindly donating two nearest the pin prizes. Club Captain Craig and Seniors Captain Bob were our starters and photographers for the day. (If any lady would like a photograph of her group taken on the tee, please contact Mike Johnson who would be happy to email a copy.) Our thanks go to former Vets rep Angela for all her hard work both before and on the day, Elaine (Club President) and Ladies’ Vice Captain Chris for Registration and Scores, and to Jane, Ann and Judith for the raffle, ball spotting and half way house. With an excellent lunch very well received by all players, Lady Captain Eleanor welcomed the ladies to Middleton Hall. Prizes were then presented to the winners. Congratulations to Sue and Alison of Costessey Park who retained the Smiths Coasters which will be presented at the Annual General Meeting. The raffle was generously supported by all those present and raised £164 for the Norfolk Junior Girls.
